Olivier Gamache is the chief executive officer of the Groupe investissement responsable inc. (GIR). He holds a business administration degree, with a specialization in finance, from HEC Montréal. He previously worked as a portfolio manager and held various executive positions for a private investment company and a foundation named after his late grandfather, François Bourgeois. He has also worked in universities and for the government.

Rosalie Vendette, director of operations, joined the GIR team in 2003 as the manager of proxy voting and a specialist in governance. She has been leading GIR operations since June 2006. She has also served as a volunteer member of the board of directors for the Greater Montreal YMCA since 2002, and has been a member of two associated committees. She participated, again as a volunteer, in the drafting of two briefs for the Jeune Chambre de commerce de Montréal (JCCM). She is currently enrolled in the master of applied ethics program at the Université de Sherbrooke.

Mario Lapointe, director of business development, brings a rich and diverse background to the GIR team. He has worked as a trustee for both public and private investment funds, including retirement plans for the City of Montreal, and as the founding director of the Société de développement économique Ville-Marie. Over the course of his career, he has held several positions in Montreal’s Sports and Leisure Department, including customer service team leader and administrator of the Jardin botanique. He has also been involved with the Syndicat des fonctionnaires municipaux de Montréal as the assistant coordinator of the Fonds de solidarité FTQ for the metropolitain area, and as a financial planning advisor-trainer with Quebec workers.

François Meloche currently employed by one of our partners, has been an analyst in social and environmental issues at GIR since 2001. For several years, he worked in firms specialized in assessing companies’ social and environmental performance, including Jantizi Research in Toronto and the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) in New York. He has been a speaker at several conferences, on topics such as responsible investment, climate change and the mining industry (Engineers Without Borders, the Association francophone pour le savoir, the Association québécoise des organismes de coopération internationale). He has served on the boards of Mining Watch Canada, the Social Investment Organisation, Équiterre (of which he is also co-founder) and the Troupe Lunivert (an environmental theatre group). He took part in the 1992 Earth Summit as a Canadian youth representative, was an escort to Guatemalan refugees and undertook several research trips to evaluate the social and environment impact of mining in Peru, Thailand and Romania. He graduated from McGill with a degree in agricultural economics.

Julie Legault, governance analyst, became part of GIR in October 2007. She has an undergraduate and a master’s degree in social work from McGill University. She also holds an MBA from HEC Montréal. She analyses the voting records for all GIR clients.

Mamadou Lamine Beye, an environmental analyst, joined the team in October 2007. He holds an undergraduate degree in natural sciences from the University Cheikh Anta Diop of Dakar (Senegal), a master’s degree in environmental studies from the University of Geneva (Switzerland) and a master’s degree in urban studies—sustainable urban development, resource management and governance—from the University of Lausanne (Switzerland). He is currently working toward a diploma of specialized higher studies (DESS) in sustainable management and development at HEC Montréal.

Odile Rochon is a governance analyst and consults for the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec to analyse the voting reports. She joined the GIR team in October 2005. She holds a degree in economics from the Université de Montréal and is currently doing a master’s degree in economics.

Julie Payette has been the coordinator at GIR since September 2007. She began as a technical assistant at GIR in the summer of 2007. She holds a double degree in communications and politics, and another degree in marketing techniques. She handles customer service and product delivery, and actively participates in managing proxy voting.

Catherine Mercure has been an accounting technician with GIR since September 2003. She has a college diploma in administrative techniques, with a specialty in computerized management. Before joining the GIR team, she worked two years at the Canada Life adjudication department, in Montreal.

Thomas Wadham-Gagnon joined the GIR team in January 2008 as a researcher. He has an undergraduate degree in business administration, with a specialty in finance, from HEC Montréal. He gathers and archives the information used to analyse and manage proxy voting.
