On January 13, Radio-Canada television show Second regard featured a report by Claude Sauvé on ethical investments. The segment provides a very interesting look at socially responsible investing in Québec and the United States and features an interview with Olivier Gamache, CEO of Groupe investissement responsable. Sauvé also examines the activities of two socially responsible activist investor groups, the Regroupement pour la responsabilité sociale des entreprises and the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility, and asks economist Joseph Stiglitz of Columbia University for his insights concerning the substantial influence that ethical investment groups have on multinational corporations.

Nigeria sues BAT, Philip Morris and International Tobacco for US$44 billionJanuary 21th 2008
The government of Nigeria has filed a lawsuit against British American Tobacco (BAT), Philip Morris and International Tobacco, seeking US$44 billion in compensation from the three tobacco companies for the costs of treating diseases related to tobacco use. The government has also accused the companies of deliberately targeting minors in their advertising and promoting a positive and glamorous image of their products. The lawsuit is the first of its kind in a developing country.
